Do you love reading? Do you live for trivia? Do you want to connect with students in other classes whom you might not know very well?
If you are a 4th or 5th grader who answered yes to any of these questions, please consider applying for our very popular Battle of the Books teams! Each April, SIS tigers travel to locations around Korea in order to compete with students from other international schools within the country. During the Battle, judges ask trivia questions about ten different novels that students have read and discussed in the months leading up to the competition. Battle of the Books is a great way to find new books, make new friends, and show your school spirit.
Next year, 5 of the 10 novels will be the Morning Calm nominees for the Chapter Book category. These books will be announced at the beginning of the school year. The remaining books will be announced just before winter break. Applications for the Battle of the Books teams will be due in December of 2019. Practices will begin in January.
Battle of the Books 2019
A huge thank you and congratulations to our BoB participants this school year! In April 2019, three teams of ten students traveled to Cheongna Dalton School to compete with fourteen other teams. Our students made SIS proud; each team won at least one of their battles, and many teachers and principals from other schools commented on how kind and respectful our students were. We are extremely proud of our teams and hope that all participating fourth graders apply again next year!
Congratulations to Sarah S, Christie, Stella, Winston, Sean, Colin, Serena, Yegene, Teddy, Evan, Zia, Grace L, Noah, Andrew, Kevin, Luke, Chloe, Cyan, Jian, Yeonjae, Yunha, Meghana, Sarah K, Yejin, Grace, Hyeonhong, Joon Ho, Leah, and Anders!
